The Fishing Tourney has kicked off in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Here’s everything you need to know about the event this weekend, including its prizes.

We may be locked in our homes this weekend due to self-quarantining and isolation, but that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy the relaxation of fishing in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The Fishing Tournament kicked off this morning in the Nintendo Switch game. It lasts for just a limited time (9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., your local time), but it will be back throughout the year.

The rules of the Fishing Tourney are pretty straightforward. Speak to C.J., who is hanging out in the town square, and he’ll enter you into the tournament. The first time is free, but after that you’ll have to pay 500 bells for each additional entry. Once you enter, the goal is to catch as many fish as you can in just three minutes.  You’ll be rewarded with points for how many fish you’ve got.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons simplifies things a bit in the Fishing Tourney. In previous games, the size and breed of fish you catch would be factored into how many points you’d earn. In New Horizons, all you have to do is catch as many as you can since every fish is only worth one point. You will get two bonus points if you catch more than three fish in the limited time.

Once you catch a fish, it will be added to the cooler outside of Resident Services, not your pocket inventory. You can speak to Chip after the challenge to quickly sell all of the fish you caught and he’ll pay you at a premium rate of 150% the regular sale price for the fish.

You only have three minutes to catch as many fish as possible, but you can use bait to assist you. It’s recommended that you craft Fish Bait to throw in the water anywhere to help spawn that fish shadow. Be careful not to run near the water as that scares the fish away.

The Fishing Tourney in Animal Crossing: New Horizons does come with a special set of exclusive reward items. You can speak with C.J. and select “the “Swap my points for swag.” He’ll let you exchange 10 Points for one exclusive Fishing Tourney item. Here’s the list of available items:

  • Anchor Statue
  • Fish Cooler
  • Fish Doorplate
  • Fish Rack
  • Fish Pochette
  • Fish Print
  • Fish Rug
  • Fish Umbrella
  • Fish Wand
  • Fish-Print Tee
  • Fishing Rod Stand
  • Marine Pop Wallpaper
  • Tackle Bag

In addition to prizes, there are bonsu Fishing Tourney Trophy items available for when you reach total points milestones:

  • Bronze Fish Trophy – 100 points
  • Silver Fish Trophy – 200 points
  • Gold Fish Trophy – 300 points

The points you exchange for prizes will not subtract from your total points towards earning a trophy. The Fishing Tourney only runs for the rest of today, but it will return this summer on July 11.
