Surprise! Activision has released Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered for PlayStation 4 with other platforms to follow.

Like they did with Warzone, Activision made another surprise drop today. Well, it would’ve been a surprise if not for the leaks ahead of time.

In any case, there was little fanfare made by the publisher about its latest release, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered. Activision neither confirmed nor denied the rumors of the past couple of weeks and then today, bam, the single-player campaign was dropped right into our laps.

Well, into the laps of PlayStation 4 owners. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is only available on PlayStation 4 right now (via PlayStation Network), but it will be coming on “other platforms” on April 30.

The entire campaign is playable in up to 4K resolution with HDR support on console. PC gets uncapped framerate plus ultrawide monitor support. Activision confirmed “improved texture resolution and detail, revamped animation, remastered audio, and more.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered is priced at $19.99. It comes with the Underwater Demo Team Classic Ghost Bundle for Modern Warfare, which includes the UDT Ghost Operator Skin — inspired by the ‘The Only Easy Day…Was Yesterday’ campaign level — as well as two weapon blueprints, a weapon charm, new finishing move, voice quip, animated calling card, emblem and two Battle Pass tier skips. This bundle is available for all platforms so even if you can’t play the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered right now, you can pre-purchase it and get immediate access to the free bonus items.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s campaign is, in my opinion, one of the best in the franchise. It’s also home to one of the most controversial missions in the series, “No Russian,” where you massacre civilians in an airport terminal while posing undercover as a terrorist. Eurogamer confirmed that this infamous mission is still included in the campaign remake.

Now that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered has been released, I wonder if Activision will do another soft reboot like they did with the first game in the series. The Modern Warfare remake was released in 2016 and last year Activision put out the reboot.
