PS4 new game releases for April 2020: FFVII Remake, RE3 and more

The highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII Remake highlights April’s new PS4 games, but that’s not the only blockbuster coming next month.

Well, it looks like we’re going to be spending a lot of time indoors the next few weeks, if not months. Thankfully, we have some really great games releasing in April to help pass the time.

For Final Fantasy fans, the long-awaited Final Fantasy VII Remake will finally make its PlayStation 4 debut. That’s not the only remake coming next month, as Capcom will be releasing a remake of Resident Evil 3.

We’ll start with the biggest game of the month and that is Final Fantasy VII Remake. This is a full-fledged remake, not a re-release or a port. Everything has been recreated from the ground up, turning the beloved role-playing game into more of an action-RPG. The Active Time Battle system has been altered from the original. The spirit of the original turn-based system is still in place but has been modernized for a more contemporary feel in which you can fill the ATB meter to use special abilities by attacking.

While Final Fantasy VII Remake is billed as a fully standalone experience, it’s still only the first chapter of the story. The original game has been split into multiple episodes that will be released over time, although each one will still feel like its own complete package.

Besides Final Fantasy VII Remake, the other big release of April is Resident Evil 3, another remake of a classic PlayStation title. Return to Raccoon City as Jill Valentine and Carlos Oliveira and attempt to survive the zombie apocalypse while also being hunted by the terrifying bioweapon Nemesis. Like last year’s Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 3 updates the original with modernized gameplay mechanics. In addition to improved visuals, the tank controls and fixed camera angles have been replaced with a more contemporary third-person shooter gameplay style.
