A leaked screenshot seems to reveal details about Riot Games’ upcoming first-person shooter, Project A, including it’s possible name as ‘Valorant’.

In celebration of the 10th anniversary of League of Legends last year, Riot Games unveiled plans to expand their portfolio of games beyond the MOBA. One of the games teased was a tactical first-person shooter, codenamed Project A.

The behind-the-scenes teaser gave us a look at what looks like a promising tactical shooter, even if it looks to be heavily inspired by Overwatch and Counter-Strike. While the game’s competitive nature, precise gunplay and colorful cast of characters are all intriguing, it’s Riot’s focus on global infrastructure and netcode that probably has most competitive FPS players exciting.

But beyond that initial video back in October, we haven’t heard much about Project A from Riot Games. That sort of changed this week, although news regarding the game have come via third-party sources and leaks.

For starters, RespawnFirst pointed out a trademark filed by Riot for something “Valorant” (via RespawnFirst). This was accompanied by the creation of the Twitter account “@PlayValorant,” which is followed by multiple pro gamers and FPS streamers.

What’s more, yesterday, a Project A fan account on Twitter leaked what appeared to be a screenshot from Valorant. The image, which you can see here, appeared to be of the character select screen.

We can see the names of three characters — Sage, Brimstone and Viper — along with images of a couple other unnamed characters. Our best view is of Sage, who you might recall seeing in the initial Project A reveal trailer.

Assuming this image is legitimate, there’s no denying Project A/Valorant strongly resembles Blizzard’s Overwatch. It is very clone-like though doesn’t seem nearly as polished (it could just be a very early development shot).

As for the character, Sage also looks like an almost exact copy of Zenyatta from Overwatch with a bit of Mercy and Moira mixed in. Her abilities help explain what we saw in that first trailer. Sage wields powerful Orbs that can be sent out to slow enemies or heal allies. She can also use these orbs to form a protective barrier and resurrect fallen allies.

Again, it’s unclear how legitimate this image is. Project A, or Valorant, is still very early in development, so it will probably be a while before we see something official from Riot Games.
