Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield introduce Zarude, the Mythical Rogue Monkey Pokémon
A new Mythical Pokémon has been discovered in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Meet Zarude, the Rogue Monkey Pokémon coming soon.
It’s Pokémon Day, which means tons of exciting news, announcements and reveals for the world of Pokémon. One of today’s highlights includes the reveal of a new Mythical Pokémon coming soon to both Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield. Meet Zarude, the Rogue Monkey Pokémon.
Zarude is a Dark- and Grass-type Pokémon who lives deep in the dense forests of Galar. He’s a vicious thing and if you get too close to his pack, he will attack relentlessly with sharp claws.
Zarude can also grow vines from the back of its neck, wrists and soles of its feet, allowing him to swing from tree branches, grab Berries at a distance and whack his enemies. They also possess healing properties.

I know they’re calling him a monkey but Zarude honestly looks more like a Gremlin. He’s an angry little thing, although not really that little considering he measures 5’11”. Unfortunately, that’s all the details we know about Zarude right now.
He’ll be coming to Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield soon, although it’s unclear exactly how you’ll be able to catch him. The Pokémon Company notes that you will not encounter Zarude in “regular gameplay,” which suggests some sort of limited time event, giveaway, or QR promotion (like they did with Magearna in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon). On the bright side, it sounds like he’ll be available for all owners of the game and not just those who purchase the expansion pass.
We’ll be sure to let you know when Zarude becomes available as well as how you’ll be able to encounter him once we find out more. What do you think of Zarude so far?
