prologue: PLAYERUNKNOWN announces new game with mysterious teaser
By Ty Brody
Brenden Greene, Playerunknown himself, has been working on a brand new IP with a team of game developers and researchers at PLAYERUNKNOWN PRODUCTIONS in Amsterdam, NL. Introducing prologue…
Pioneer of the Battle Royale genre with the release of Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, Brenden Greene announced in March of 2019 that he would be taking a step back to focus on PUBG: Special Projects, a studio based in Amsterdam. Nine months later, it appears we’ve received the first look at what Playerunknown has been up to.
During The Game Awards, we were treated to a very mysterious and brief teaser for prologue. You can watch it below but don’t expect to learn much.
It’s just 30 seconds in length and doesn’t really show much outside of some sort of jungle-forest environment. It looks impressive and the lighting looks good. In the background, you can hear a dog barking.
But what is it exactly? That remains to be seen. The video directs viewers to the prologue website which refers to it as “an exploration of new technologies and gameplay” with a goal of giving players “unique and memorable experiences, each and every time they play.”
Greene further elaborated on this with a few additional statements, but also didn’t reveal much. One could say that PUBG effectively does what prologue is aiming to do.
"“Our studio was founded with the goal of exploring, experimenting, and creating new technologies and gameplay experiences,” said Brendan Greene. “With prologue, we are taking our first steps toward building new technologies and interactions that will help develop my ideas into reality.”"

The PLAYERUNKNOWN Productions studio is aiming to “explore, experiment and create new technologies, pipelines, and gameplay”. Hopefully, we’ll receive some more information on this project following the initial teaser, it certainly caught the attention of every PUBG fan.
"“I have been given a once in a lifetime chance to deliver something new on a global stage. Being given a platform to build a brand-new experience outside of the Battle Royale genre is an amazing gift, and one I don’t want to squander,” added Greene. “prologue is an exploration into new technologies and gameplay. Our aim with this game is to give players unique and memorable experiences, each and every time they play.”"
Though there isn’t much to take away from the brief trailer, it’s being speculated that this may be a hardcore survival game with gunplay and mechanics similar to PUBG. Whatever it is, we’re excited to see more of it!
