The Clash of Clans December update will unleash the Siege Barracks, a new Siege Machine coming with Town Hall 13.

In our predictions for Town Hall 13, we speculated that one of the clips in the Clash of Clans December update teaser suggested that a new Siege Machine was coming. Well, today, Supercell Games has confirmed our suspicions.

Supercell offered another sneak peek at the upcoming December update for Clash of Clans. Today’s preview revealed the Siege Barracks, an intriguing new Siege Machine that can be unlocked when you upgrade your Siege Workshop (presumably to the new level four) at Town Hall 13.

So how does it work? According to Supercell:

"…the Siege Barracks does not drive or fly towards the enemy Town Hall or defenses like the Battle Blimp, Wall Wrecker, or Stone Slammer do. While the Siege Barracks will still carry your Clan Castle Troops inside, instead the Siege Barracks is deployed anywhere you can normally drop your Clan Castle Troops."

What makes the Siege Barracks power isn’t how you deploy it, however. Rather, it’s the surprise waiting inside.

In addition to housing you Clan Castle troops, the Siege Barracks also contains some of its own troops. Before your Clan Castle troops are released, the Siege Barracks will first deploy its own pre-loaded units: a single P.E.K.K.A. and multiple Wizards. The levels of the P.E.K.K.A. and Wizards will be equivalent to what the player can use at their Lab level.

The P.E.K.K.A is the first troop to deploy, followed by multiple wizards — one deploying every few seconds as the Hit Point bar of the Siege Barracks ticks down. The Hit Point bar acts as a timer for the Wizards, but enemy defenses can attack it. Causing the Hit Points to run out faster means fewer Wizards will spawn overall.

At zero Hit Points, the Siege Barracks will collapse and release the Clan Cast troops to finish off whatever destruction needs to be done. Rather than waiting for the timer, you can manually destroy the Siege Barracks to release the Clan Castle troops sooner.

As explained by Supercell community manager, Darian, “Every Siege Machine fulfills a very specific and niche role. They are not meant to be general for all roles. The Siege Barracks, like the other ones, are very specific in what they do.”

With that said, it seems the Siege Barracks will be most useful when trying to clean a part of the base or targeting specific structures. The really useful feature here is the additional troop capacity. The Siege Machine looks to be an intriguing new addition to Clash of Clans, and I’m sure it won’t take long for players to figure out its most useful strategy.

But while attacking will get a buff, so will defenses. As yesterday’s teaser for Town Hall 13 revealed, villages will now be armed with the Giga Inferno, a powerful new defense structure for TH13 that deals damage over time to multiple enemies at once.

Supercell has only offered two sneak peeks for the December update thus far: the actual Town Hall 13/Giga Inferno and now the Siege Barracks. It’s likely we’ve got a few more days of surprises left — perhaps some new troops and buildings, balance adjustments, etc. — before the update arrives. I’m expecting the update to arrive sometime next week.
