The PlayStation 5 may not be set to be released until the year 2020, but the console’s features are already making headlines! Here’s what we know about the PS5.

After the success of the PlayStation 4, Sony is set to retain the title of undisputed game console champion. Unlike the direction their rival Microsoft is going with their new effort, Xbox Scarlett, it looks like Sony won’t be ditching the digits on the end of their console’s name, as the PlayStation 5 is set to be released… next year in 2020.

While its launch won’t happen until next year, details about the new system have already surfaced on the web. Read on to find out what features you can expect for the PlayStation 5.

PlayStation VR/PlayStation 4 Compatibility

According to an article posted by TechRadar, it has in fact been confirmed that the PS5 will have the capability of playing both PS4 and PSVR titles, with previous consoles like the PlayStation 3 and Playstation 2 not yet confirmed. Backwards compatibility isn’t a new feature by any means, but it’s still important to note. This feature has been quite popular over the years!

The PlayStation 5 Controller

The DualShock 4’s rumble technology won’t make its return to the PS5 and is said to be replaced with haptic feedback, according to IGN. Plus, a feature called adaptive triggers is stated to be added. An example of this would be making it feel harder to pull back a bow and arrow versus pulling the trigger of a gun.

From Hard drive To Solid-State Drive

According to a recent post via GameSpot, the PS5 will use solid-state drives that are common in laptops as opposed to hard drives. This means more storage and faster loading times.

A Revamped User Interface

It was recently reported that the PlayStation 5 will feature a completely revamped user interface according to a recent article via Wired. Chief architect, Mark Cerny was quoted as saying, “Even though it will be fairly fast to boot games, we don’t want the player to have to boot the game, see what’s up, boot the game, see what’s up.

"“Multiplayer game servers will provide the console with the set of joinable activities in real-time. Single-player games will provide information like what missions you could do and what rewards you might receive for completing them – and all of those choices will be visible in the UI. As a player, you just jump right into whatever you like.”"
