Unleash your inner barista with the Cafe Culture update for The Sims FreePlay, which also adds the Downtown Developer event and new customization options.

As the famous Mike Ditka once said, “Coffee is the lifeblood that drives the dreams of champions.” And now it’ll fuel your Sims.

The Sims FreePlay‘s Cafe Culture update arrived today, giving players the chance to unlock a new multi-story cafe. But coffee is more than just a drink for today’s generation. It’s a way of life, and The Sims FreePlay is embracing that lifestyle with new cosmetics such as hipster beards, thick-rimmed glasses, man-bun hairstyles and everything else you’d associate with a specialty coffee shop (likely found in Washington).

The highlight of the update is the Cafè Grandè Live Event. This 15-day event begins today, and completing it will reward you with a multi-story cafe location. Additional earned prizes allow you to customize this cafe with “brick feature wallpaper, crate tables, wood retro furniture, coffee machine and a food display.”

But if you’re going to run the coffee shop, you’re going to need to look the part. New facial customization categories have been added, introducing long beards and new glasses styles for adult male Sims; Face type and facial hair are now separate categories in the wardrobe and include features such as hair, beards, glasses and tattoos.

The update also introduces the Downtown Developer event, a brand-new, timed event that can unlock a glamorous new three-story apartment lot and a luxury penthouse apartment. To begin this event, you must have access to the Downtown district which unlocks at level 13 after you complete the Simtown Express Discovery Quest.

The event runs for 30 days once you start it and while you can actually take however long you need to complete the quest, there are Major Stage Deadlines that you must reach if you wish to unlock the grand prize (the three-story luxury apartment). We’ll have a full write-up on this shortly.

Also returning with this update is the Ghost Flustered Seasonal Quest, a 9-day event that begins on October 23 and is inspired by Halloween. The Long Hair Hobby will return as well beginning November 1.

There are two new events included with this update: SimChase Season 8 – Cafe Conundrums (starts November 7) and Maternity Pack 8 (starts November 15).

Overall, this is a pretty massive update that has been met with warm enthusiasm from the player base. The last few updates have been pretty underwhelming but I think the Cafe Culture update has been just the kick this game needed.
