A wild Labor Day weekend filled with cuts and trades means there are some exciting things to look forward to in Madden 20’s Week 1 update.

Barring any major delays caused by Hurricane Dorian, the Madden 20 Week 1 roster update is expected to arrive this Thursday, September 5 — just in time for the season kickoff between the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers.

As per usual, the roster update will reflect the final 53-man rosters for all 32 NFL teams, including the wild trades that have taken place over the past few days. Below are the five biggest roster changes we should see reflected in the Madden 20 Week 1 roster update.

Jadeveon Clowney traded to Seattle Seahawks

I can guarantee that cut day and Labor Day weekend would not have been nearly exciting if not for the Houston Texans who made a series of blockbuster (and questionable) trades. The biggest head-scratcher was the trading of Jadeveon Clowney in exchange for a 2020 third-round pick plus defensive ends Barkevious Mingo and Jacob Martin. Talk about a steal for the Seahawks.

At 26 years old, Clowney is a three-time Pro Bowler with 29 career sacks. The 2014 No. 1 overall pick recorded a career-high 9.5 sacks in 2017 and 9 sacks last year. As ESPN notes, Clowney is one of only four players with 20-plus sacks and 50-plus tackles for a loss since 2016. To trade a Pro-Bowl caliber player seemingly entering his prime for what amounts to a bag of peanuts is undoubtedly the most questionable move made this offseason.

Seattle fans have to be thrilled with this move as the 92 overall rated Clowney adds a dangerous speed rushing coming off the edge. Clowney immediately bolsters a Seattle defense in Madden 20 that already has 99-overall Bobby Wagner at middle linebacker. Adding Clowney at LB (or defensive end with some adjustments) is going to cause nightmares for opposing offenses in Madden thanks to his 87 speed, 90 acceleration, 89 block shedding, 89 power moves and 81 finesse moves.

Clowney was holding out of training camp, so the decision to ship him wasn’t a surprise. It was more the lack of return in which they got for him. In Madden 20, the Texans will get a 74 overall LOLB Barkevious Mingo and 68 overall RE Jacob Martin. Yikes.
