Madden NFL 20: Seahawks’ Bobby Wagner named the second member of the 99 Club

EA has revealed Seattle Seahawks MLB Bobby Wagner to be the second member of the Madden NFL 20 ’99 Club,’ joining Aaron Donald.

For years, Seattle Seahawks linebacker Bobby Wagner has dominated on the defensive side of the ball. And now he’ll dominate on the gridiron of Madden NFL 20 as he has been named as the second member of the ’99 Club,’ EA’s nickname for those with the highest possible rating in the game.

An eighth-year veteran, Wagner has has consistently ranked among the best linebackers in the sport. A four-time first team All-Pro, Wagner was actually voted as PFF’s top-ranked linebacker for the 2018 season, with 138 tackles (84 solo), 1 sack, 11 pass deflections and an interception.

But Madden‘s 99 Club is about consistency and Wagner is a prime example of that with 84.4 solo tackles and 2.4 sacks averaged per season. He’s not the flashiest name out of the hat, but he’s definitely earned his spot among the top talent in Madden.

Here’s what EA had to say about Wagner:

"Bobby Wagner is an elite and versatile defender and is arguably the most well-rounded linebacker in the league. Wagner is a beast against the run, dominant in pass coverage, is one of the league’s premiere pass-rushing linebackers, and is hands down the best tackler in the NFL. Wagner doesn’t miss tackles either, as he’s only logged 13 missed tackles over the last three seasons."

Bobby Wagner will boast perfect 99 Tackle and 99 Pursuit ratings along with 98 Hit Power – all of which are best in Madden NFL 20. He’ll also have the Shutdown zone ability which, when active, provides tighter coverage and more frequent interceptions on contested catches.

Honestly, Bobby Wagner’s perfect rating in Madden NFL 20 comes as a bit of a surprise to me, but definitely a pleasant one. As I mentioned, he’s not often thrust into the spotlight of the NFL, so his stats have go unnoticed by many, myself included.

I never realized just how much of a complete package linebacker he actually is; but, then again, it’s easy to get overshadowed when you play for the Seahawks, a team that has prided itself on its shutdown defense once led by Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor and many other greats. With many of them having since moved on, Wagner – one of the original members in the “Legion of Boom” – has become the cornerstone of the revitalized Seahawks defense.

There’s something to be said of EA’s inclusion of Bobby Wagner in Club 99 for Madden NFL 20, as they could’ve easily gone for a big-named superstar like Luke Kuechly, Khalil Mack or Von Miller instead. Of course, this is only the second day of EA’s 99 Club unveilings, so it’s possible one (or all) of those players will also be announced in the coming days.
