Call of Duty: Modern Warfare features cinematic intros to multiplayer
Ahead of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Universe reveal event, Activision continues to tease exciting new features — like Infiltrations.
Activision has released a new video teasing another element in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare‘s multiplayer. Ahead of the highly anticipated Multiplayer Universe reveal event on August 1, the publisher unveiled tactical infils, or “infiltrations” — new cinematic introductions that play while entering a multiplayer match.
Accompanying the teaser video was a lengthy post that vividly set the scene as players enter the map currently named “Gun Runner.”
"It is Day 215. ‘Operation Gun Runner’ is in full swing, as you descend and disembark from a deployment helicopter.Perched on the side of the chopper, you’re listening to radio chatter, sitting next to Operator ‘D-Day’, who’s holding an assault rifle (with a short stock). It looks like you’ve chosen an assault rifle with Long Barrel and Hybrid Scope. As you drop onto the cracked concrete loading dock near this train yard, you fan out; ready to engage Allegiance forces."
That’s a pretty intense description for what is essentially a short cinematic that plays in between the time you’ve chosen your Multiplayer Loadout and the start of the multiplayer match. It adds a little more immersion to the match, but it’s nothing we haven’t seen in other multiplayer games, like Titanfall, before. Even Call of Duty: WW2‘s War mode had introductions featuring other players in the match.

Still, it’s better than sitting through a boring loading screen. And it doesn’t seem like it’ll actually add to the load time between matches. If anything, maybe it’ll help the time pass.
Based on Activision’s post, it sounds like there will be multiple infiltration cinematics – perhaps a different one for each map. We don’t know how many maps will be featured in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but we should find out soon enough.
The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Multiplayer Universe event is slated to take place on August 1, 2019, and should lift the curtain entirely on the game’s multiplayer modes. In the meantime, it looks like we’ll have to settle for brief teasers, like this one and the previous Gunsmithing announcement. Also briefly teased, Gunsmithing is basically a fancy name for weapon customization.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is set to release on October 25, 2019.
