Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Operation Spectre Rising brings the carnage to PS4 tomorrow
Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Operation Spectre Rising brings a new Specialist, multiplayer maps and weapons, updates to Blackout and more.
While we very well could get our first teaser for Infinity Ward’s new Call of Duty next month, Activision isn’t quite ready to move on from Black Ops 4. A few months away from the launch of 2019’s installment in the popular first-person shooter franchise, Treyarch still has plenty planned to keep us enthralled with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 for the time being.
In fact, Treyarch is gearing up to release the next season of content for Black Ops 4. Operation Spectre Rising is set to arrive tomorrow, April 30, on PlayStation (with other platforms to follow). Ahead of its release, Activision has released a trailer highlighting the new content it will bring.
As you can see, Operation Spectre Rising packs quite a bit of exciting new content for Black Ops 4, and it starts with the new Multiplayer Specialist and Blackout character, Spectre. The deadly assassin promises plenty of carnage, utilizing a stealth approach to sneak up and slice n’ dice his foes.
The trailer also showcases gameplay on two new maps: Artifact, an archaeological dig site in the southern region of Iceland; and Masquerade, a vibrant inspired by the U.S. Embassy in Rajshahi, Bangladesh. A third map, WMD, is actually a remake of the classic Black Ops map – a weaponized nova-6 gas plant located in Mount Yamantau, Russia. The returning map looks to have been faithfully recreated for Black Ops 4.
The trailer also teases the Wetworks Map Update to Blackout, Black Ops 4’s battle royale mode. An explosion at Hydro Dam has seemingly flooded portions of the map, and the trailer showcases some thrilling combat on the Tactical Rafts.

Activision also promises new weapons, challenging Zombies Gauntlets and more in Operation Spectre Rising. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait a bit longer for more details regarding tomorrow’s update. A live stream later today will provide more specifics on the new season of content.
Operation Spectre Rising will launch first on PlayStation 4, but should arrive on other platforms one week later. Similar to content expansions in the past, Operation Spectre Rising will likely be split into paid-for and free content. Typically, new multiplayer maps and Blackout characters are gated behind the season pass, while new weapons, Blackout map updates and Zombies challenges are available for everyone.
Activision still has two more Operations planned for Black Ops 4 – one arriving in the summer and the final one in the fall – taking us all the way up to Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty release later this year. Of course, we can probably expect to learn more about the new Call of Duty game in the coming weeks and months ahead.
