Life is Strange 2 Episodes 3-5 will run through the end of 2019
The only thing slower than the pace of Life is Strange 2 is the rate at which the final three episodes will be released.
Sean and Daniel’s journey to Puerto Lobos, Mexico is going take quite a while. Developer Dontnod Entertainment announced the release dates for the final three episodes in Life is Strange 2, and it will take us all the way through the end of the year.
Unfortunately, we’re still a bit away from Episode 3: Wastelands, which is on track to release May 9. The currently untitled Episode 4 and Episode 5 will release on August 22 and December 3, respectively.
For those doing the math, that’s more than three months’ wait between episodes which doesn’t exactly make for the optimal playing experience. As a narrative-driven game, it’s important to establish a connection with the characters of Life is Strange 2. A wait of three-to-four months between episodes makes forming that tight bond difficult. It’s hard to care about a character when they’ve been away for so long.
Think of how hard it is to navigate a long distance relationship. That’s essentially what Life is Strange 2 is at this point. You get a weekend together and then it’s gone for months at a time. All the while, new games – new temptations – are releasing every week, vying for your attention.
As you can tell, I’m not too thrilled with Dontnod stretching out Life is Strange 2 for the entirety of 2019. If you haven’t already started playing this season, I suggest, at this point, just waiting for all episodes to release.
For those of you already invested, though, Dontnod did provide a brief synopsis of what Episode 3: Wastelands will entail. I don’t want to spoil what happened at the end of Episode 2 because it was a pretty awesome cliffhanger for what was otherwise an off-paced episode. However, Episode 3 will once again pick up with Sean and Daniel traveling to Mexico.

The synopsis reads:
"“Episode 3, ‘Wastelands’, continues Sean and Daniel Diaz’s journey to Mexico, as they reach the towering redwood forests of California. Falling in with a community of drifters on the fringes of society, the brothers are exposed to new experiences, encounter new friends and challenges, and must confront much about themselves in the process. New relationships cause friction between the brothers and raise doubts about their unity. Can they stay together, or will their journey together end here?”"
We don’t yet have a trailer for Episode 3: Wastelands, but it sounds like this “community of drifters” could be the same group of characters we saw at the Christmas tree farm in Episode 2. Could Cassidy and the mysterious man we previously met pop up in Episode 3? Unfortunately, we still have over a month to wait to find out.
Life is Strange 2 Episode 3: Wastelands will release on May 9, 2019.
