Fresh off releasing Alien: Blackout, FoxNext Games is ready to tackle their next franchise, announcing Alita: Battle Angel – The Game for mobile.

FoxNext Games is no stranger to adapting major existing franchises into mobile games. Fresh off the release of Alien: Blackout, the studio already has their sights set on another major title – Alita: Battle Angel.

The James Cameron-produced cyberpunk film, which is actually based on Yukito Kishiro’s manga Gunnm, opens in theaters this week. Coinciding with the film’s upcoming theatrical release, FoxNext Games announced Alita: Battle Angel – The Game.

Developed by GameArk, Alita: Battle Angel – The Game is an MMORPG developed for mobile devices. In it, players will take to the dangerous streets of Iron City and team up with heroin cyborg, Alita, to take down the villainous Grewishka.

Alita: Battle Angel, which was written by James Cameron and directed by Robert Rodriguez. But despite its current 51 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the sci-fi blockbuster film still has theatergoers intrigued (94 percent want to see).

And I have to say, after watching the trailer, I can see why. Story aside, the visuals look incredible. Coupled with some intense action sequences, it looks like Alita will not only be a fun romp but could lend itself nicely to the mobile game space.

Unfortunately, there was no trailer to accompany the game announced, though we do have a few details. Alita: Battle Angel – The Game will offer both PvE and PvP game modes, including something called “Motorball” – which I can only assume is some fictional sport that exists in the future.

It also appears that players will create and customize a character, selecting from numerous weapons, gear and cybernetic upgrades. It’s hard to judge from the screenshots exactly how the game will play, or even what type of combat mechanics it features. But there is a promise of “stunning, high-quality action and graphics,” so take that for what it’s worth.

Alita: Battle Angel – The Game is expected to launch on mobile devices later this year, but you can actually register for the game on Google Play and the App Store.

The announcement of Alita: Battle Angel – The Game comes on the heels of FoxNext Games launching Alien: Blackout, a mobile game inspired by the popular Alien sci-fi franchise. While the game was met with some mixed reactions upon being announced for mobile devices, it turns out that it’s actually quite good – as evidenced by its Metascore.

That alone has me excited for the potential of Alita: Battle Angel – The Game.
