Check out the launch trailer for Life is Strange 2 Episode 2: Rules, which features a huge twist related to last summer’s The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

In just two days, fans of Life is Strange 2 will be able to reunite with Sean and Daniel with the release of Episode 2: Rules. Due out on Thursday, January 24, 2019, Rules will continue the adventures of the two brothers as they make their way down to their family’s hometown of Puerto Lobos, Mexico. And now we have a trailer that teases the upcoming struggles they’ll face while on the way.

As previously teased by Square Enix and developer Dontnod Entertainment, Episode 2 will see Sean and Daniel still on the run from police following the tragic incident in Seattle that resulted in the death of their father and a police officer. Picking up six months after Episode 1: Roads, it seems the boys have made their way to their grandparents’ house where they seek relief from the winter cold.

Their grandparents offer them a permanent home, but as the trailer alludes, blending into the small town won’t be easy – especially with Daniel’s supernatural power. Not to mention, it seems like Episode 2 will continue to explore the themes of racism in America, something that was very prevalent in the first episode.

Not looking to draw any attention, we see Sean lay out some basic rules for Daniel in terms of his powers. We also see Daniel embrace his powers and attempt to learn how to control them. As Sean plays a sort of Yoda mentor to Daniel, he warns his younger brother to always keep his abilities hidden. Of course, that’s easier said than done for a nine-year-old.

About midway through the trailer is when we get the ultimate reveal, as the episode ties into The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit. We knew Chris Eriksen, the young boy we played as in last summer’s free demo, would be seen in the game and somehow connect with Daniel. Now we see how. I don’t want to spoil too much, but let’s just say the trailer reveals an incredible twist to the ending of The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit.

If you didn’t play The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit prior to Life is Strange 2, I recommend you do. It’s pretty short and Square Enix says actions taken in Captain Spirit “will have repercussions in Episode 2.”

The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is available for free on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC/Steam. Meanwhile, Life is Strange 2 Episode 2: Rules will release on January 24, 2019, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC/Steam.
