Mortal Kombat 11 may feature the return of everyone’s favorite Zaterran, Reptile, according to a possible spoiler from the game’s art director.

On Thursday, NetherRealm Studios hosted its livestream reveal event for Mortal Kombat 11. The event featured plenty of exciting announcements and reveals, including gameplay footage which showcased the character select screen.

To date, seven characters have been revealed for Mortal Kombat 11: Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Baraka, Raiden, Skarlet, Sonya and Gears, the latter being a newcomer to the series. However, the character select screen featured a total 25 boxes, suggesting it’s only a matter of time before more fighters are revealed.

We already know Shao Kahn will be featured as a playable character for those who pre-order Mortal Kombat 11 and will most likely be made available for individual purchase at a later date following the game’s launch. We’ve also seen footage of Liu Kang and Kung Lao along with a briefly teased blur of what could be Kabal.

Assuming all of the aforementioned characters are confirmed, that still leaves us with 14 mysterious fighters still to be revealed. Thanks to an interview with Mortal Kombat 11 art director Steve Beran, we may have an idea as to who will be revealed next or at least soon-ish.

Speaking to DualShockers in an interview following “The Reveal,” Beran talked a bit about Mortal Kombat 11‘s new Towers of Time. The new mode, which DualShockers says is seemingly “based around the classic tower structure seen in previous [Mortal Kombat] games,” allows you to select a variety of modifiers to help during the fight.

When talking about one, in particular, a tag team modifier that allows you “to use different characters to progress through the tower,” Beran might have accidentally leaked Reptile as a playable character in Mortal Kombat 11.

Beran used Skarlet as an example, detailing that she could enter the fight, “throw a few blows,” and then hop back out. Then he used the currently-unconfirmed Reptile as another example.

"“Then there’s certain things like you can activate Reptile’s Acid Ball. It’s very nostalgic. You have these helpers, if you will. It’s a blast and we’re really happy about that.”"

Okay, so it’s not a direct confirmation that Reptile will be playable in Mortal Kombat 11, but it would certainly seem odd for the game to feature one the character’s moves and not the actual character himself. Not to mention, Reptile has been a staple in the series, appearing in almost every Mortal Kombat game released.

While Beran may have prematurely leaked Reptile as a playable fighter in Mortal Kombat 11, the inclusion of the fan-favorite character shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise.

We’ll hopefully get confirmation of Reptile in Mortal Kombat 11 soon. The highly anticipated fighting game is set to release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on April 23, 2019.
