Red Dead Redemption 2 UFO mystery solved: How to find the alien ship
Players have already discovered and solved Red Dead Redemption 2’s mysterious UFO easter egg. Here’s a guide to help spot the alien ship.
Red Dead Redemption 2 only just released on Friday and already players are uncovering tons of exciting mysteries hidden within the expansive frontier. Like Grand Theft Auto V before it, Red Dead Redemption 2‘s open world is rife with hidden easter eggs that Rockstar has left for fans to discover.
One of the game’s biggest mysteries early on involves aliens. But don’t worry, this one is not nearly as complicated or intricate as Grand Theft Auto V‘s Mount Chiliad mystery, which took years for players to solve.
So what is the alien mystery and Red Dead Redemption 2 and how do you solve it?
Well, I encountered the first clues to this mystery by mere accident. While roaming the lands early on in my game following a quest, I stumbled upon an abandoned shack filled with dead cultists, empty elixir bottles, mysterious shrines and an ominous letter.
More specifically, you can find this shack slightly northeast of Emerald Ranch. The shack is located near a small pond which you can see on your map in between the “N” and the “O” of New Hanover if zoomed in (east of Heartland Overflow). The shack is actually slightly north of the pond. You can see an outline of the building if you zoom all the way in on your map and look near the name “Hani’s Bethel.”
Once you locate the shack, head towards the fireplace where you should see a mysterious note on an end table. It reads:
"At the second hour under the half moon, byt he great love and grace of our savior, Kuhkowaba, Voyager of Time and Galaxies. We cast off our mortal shells so his vessell can take our spirits to the promised realm, to live in peace and power until the two thousandth year, when we will return for a new chosen and worship once again at the peak of Mount Shann. In his love, we rejoice always.”"
At the time, I had no idea what this meant, but clearly, it was a clue – and some sort of direction. The clue in the note suggests you head to Mount Shann. If you’re still early in the game, you probably haven’t explored far enough west to discover Strawberry, which means you probably don’t know where Mount Shann located.
Strawberry is located on the western portion of your map. Mount Shann is just north of Strawberry (and a little west). More specifically, you’ll find the point of interest under the “S” of West Elizabeth on your map.
Once you locate the mountain, hike your way to the very top where you’ll find a rock mysterious rock circle with a pillar-like structure sticking out. It may take a bit of time to find it as the mountaintop is actually kind of big. Once you find the rock formation, you can’t really interact with it, so just walk around it for a bit. At this point, you won’t notice anything special, but that’s okay.
Now it’s time to head back to the original cultist shack at Hani’s Bethel. Before actually going into the shack, make camp and wait until nighttime, as the note hints “at the second hour under the half moon.”

Once it’s nighttime, head into the shack and you should immediately notice a glowing green light coming in through the open roof. If you head outside of the shack quickly, you might be able to catch a quick glimpse of the alien ship itself before it vanishes into space.
The inclusion of the UFO in Red Dead Redemption 2 isn’t just a fun little nod to those who may have played GTA V, but it also pays homage to the mysteries that actually existed in the Old West. According to Live Science, “there actually are a few reports of extraterrestrial encounters in the 1800s.” A notable report alleges an encounter between cowboys and aliens in Texas back in 1897, though it’s entirely possible talk of wild extraterrestrials happened around the campfire long before.
VG247 actually has a really useful video guide to help direct you through this mysterious adventure. At this point, this seems to be all there is to the Red Dead Redemption 2 UFO mystery, but perhaps it’s possible there’s more to be uncovered. If anything else is discovered regarding an alien presence in Red Dead Redemption 2, we’ll be sure to let you know. Likewise, if you discover anything fun in the game be sure to let us know!
