Not holding out for a high OVR Madden 18 player rating, Le’Veon Bell makes his mark on the list of the best running backs in the game.

So far, EA Sports has already released their Madden 18 ratings for rookies and quarterbacks, kicking off the fan base debate season early with their projections for the top players at the beginning of the season. Now they’re stepping things up into maximum overdrive with a look at the top five running backs in the game.

There are some predictable names in the top five, but there are some interesting honorable mentions, too. Marshawn Lynch is on the outside looking in, sporting 94 Truck and 92 Stiff Arm that takes him back to the Saints-swatting days of old. Devonta Freeman (89 OVR) and Tevin Coleman (85 OVR) mark the best backfield tandem in the game, too.

Let’s get to the top five running backs, according to the Madden 18 ratings.

#5: Ezekiel Elliott – Dallas Cowboys (90 OVR)

The 2016 PFW Rookie of the Year marks the entry into the elite, holding 90 OVR at the beginning of the season. He’s got the legs to back up the stats, sporting 92 Speed, 94 Agility, 91 Acceleration and 90 Awareness. Look for him to truly excel running the ball, as his 71 Catch rating is the best among his receiving stats in Madden 18.

#4: DeMarco Murray – Tennessee Titans (91 OVR)

If you want a player who’s both aware running the ball as he is seeing the field as a receiver, DeMarco Murray may be a strong bet. He’s got that 95 Awareness and Catch in Traffic rating of 78, as well as owning a number of Catch-based stats in the high 70s. Pretty good for a runner, but he’ll still rely on his low-90s Agility and Acceleration and 89 Speed to navigate his way through the line of scrimmage.

#3: LeSean McCoy – Buffalo Bills (92 OVR)

Whenever you think to yourself, “Buffalo has the worst luck,” remember they have LeSean McCoy on their roster. His 98 Agility, 96 Juke, 93 Elusiveness, 93 Awareness and 92 Acceleration bolsters an impressive line. His 66 Strength, though, means he might get knocked down, and 90 Speed won’t make him the fastest back. He can navigate his way around attackers fairly well, making him the third-best running back at Madden 18’s launch.

#2: David Johnson – Arizona Cardinals (94 OVR)

Let’s just say the front office for the Arizona Cardinals were glad the fans had someone to cheer for in 2016, as David Johnson’s ascension distracted an overall disappointing season. 93 Agility, 92 Speed, 91 Acceleration, 90 Awareness, 76 Catch (Top 2 for running backs) and an impressive Kick Return rating of 85 means he’s built to run all kinds of offensive plays.

#1: Le’Veon Bell – Pittsburgh Steelers (97 OVR)

No one man should have all that (running) power. Le’Veon Bell wants to get paid, and he damn well should! He’s the best in Madden 18 and in the real world, sporting a 98 Juke, 97 Ball Carrier Vision, 95 Agility, 93 Acceleration, 91 Awareness and 90 Speed. One of his weakest attributes is an 87 Truck rating, demonstrating how supremely strong of a running back he is.
