No. 6 - Demon Slayer
Will we ever be getting a Demon Slayer II (aside from Shadow of the Storm)?
As a free-to-play player, Demon Slayer was effectively the must-do primer for Dragon Slayer. It takes players on an adventure across the map to find three keys to unlock Silverlight, the one and only weapon capable of harming Delrith. Delrith has been summoned to destroy Varrock, and you are tasked with stopping him.
This quest was one of six quests released with the launch of RuneScape in January 2001, and it is the only one of those six that requires combat.
The others are Cook’s Assistant, The Restless Ghost, Romeo and Juliet, Sheep Shearer, and Shield of Arrav, all iconic quests in their own right which very well could have been included on this list – and all which are some of our favorite free-to-play experiences.
So as a new player, Demon Slayer was designed to feel at least somewhat intimidating, even if Delrith does only have seven life points, because even with a Novice difficulty rating, once upon a time, this was the toughest quest in the game, and it wasn’t remotely close.
Vampyre Slayer and Dragon Slayer were, of course, released later in the year, though we’d argue that Demon Slayer, from start to finish, is actually tougher than Vampyre Slayer.
One of the biggest obstacles for lower-level players is actually attacking Delrith, given the aggression of the nearby Dark Wizards in the Varrock stone circle.
Maybe in Demon Slayer II (it’s possible, right?) Delrith II will have eight life points. Maybe.
