13. Cook’s Assistant

Difficulty: 1/10
Nostalgia: 9/10
Storyline: 5/10
Overall: 5.8/10

Cook’s Assistant is the quest that most new players complete first, largely due to its location. The Cook finds himself in a bind, needing to bake a cake for the Duke of Lumbridge’s birthday, and he needs you to find the ingredients to help him pull it off.

While the “lazy NPC” tag might be applicable here, this one just felt different doing it as a noob, and even to this day, doing it (without buying everything ahead of time) brings back the memories of doing it after arriving in Lumbridge for the first time, fresh off the major achievement of completing Tutorial Island.

This quest was almost an extension of Tutorial Island, in a way, because while the Quest Guide on Tutorial Island introduced questing, you didn’t actually do a quest. For many of us, that changed shortly after reaching the mainland.

And while you may not have known it at the time, this quest sets the stage for helping the cook – and him helping you – with Recipe for Disaster, one of the most iconic and longest quests in the entire game.
