Bandai Namco finally revealed Elden Ring's highly anticipated DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree. Set to arrive this summer, the upcoming expansion will send players to the Land of Shadow to explore a new adventure full of mysteries and danger.

While we've all been eagerly awaiting Elden Ring's DLC, there's another Bandai Namco we're all hoping for — a Bloodborne remake for PS5.

Following the reveal of Shadow of the Erdtree, Hidetaka Miyazaki — director of both Bloodborne and Elden Ring — was asked about the possibility of a Bloodborne remake for PlayStation 5.

Unfortunately, he couldn't talk too much about it. "We simply don't own the IP at FromSoftware," he stated. Because Sony owns the IP, it would ultimately be up to them to greenlight the project.

Miyazaki acknowledged that he has "a lot of great memories" from the game, but reiterated he's "not at libert yto speak on it."

Meanwhile, in another interview with Eurogamer, Miyazaki elaborated a bit more. While he still couldn't talk about the possibility of a remake he referred to Bloodborne as a "title we hold very dear and just as much as our fans."

He added that it "makes me very happy to see that there are still so many people passionate about it."

Released in 2015 for the PlayStation 4, Bloodborne revolutionized the Souls-like genre. Its fast-paced, aggressive style of combat was a nice change of pace from games like Dark Souls. It emphasized both action and strategy.

Although Bloodborne is playable on the PlayStation 5, it doesn't feature any visual or gameplay improvements. Now eight years old, the game feels dated when going back and playing it.

Miyazaki believes that new hardware helps give remakes value, allowing developers to achieve things not possible on previous generations of hardware. but he admits that "accessibility is important" as well.

"I think that can be the driving force between bringing an old game to a new platform," he stated.

So as of right now, there's no word on whether or not a Bloodborne remake for PS5 is in development. In fact, it's not even FromSoftware who will make that call — it's Sony. In contrast, FromSoftware did gain full ownership over the Elden Ring trademark, meaning the developer has full control over what they can do with the license.
