Is Indiana Jones And the Great Circle Canon to the Movies?

Gamers were shocked earlier this month when Xbox announced at their Developer Direct that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle would be released later on this year. Indian Jones and the Great Circle is set to bring one of the greatest film franchises of all time to the video game world. This news is very exciting, but it also brings up many questions that gamers want answered.

One of the biggest questions that came up immediately right after Xbox revealed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was, is the game going to be canon to the movie franchise?

Canon is a big topic of discussion whenever a major franchise branches off into new areas of entertainment. We have seen the same question asked when new Star Wars games are announced and even then, not every Star Wars video game is canon to the Star Wars universe. For example, you have Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor which are indeed both canon. However, games such as Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and Star Wars: Republic Commando are not canon to the Star Wars universe. It is never a guarantee that a video game will be canon to the movies which is why gamers are looking for answers.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will take place in 1937. This puts the video game right smack in the middle of Raiders of the Lost Ark (1936) and The Last Crusade (1938). While the game will just focus on this one year in between both movies, it offers the opportunity to tie up some lose ends and give even greater detail of what Indiana Jones was doing right after the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Last week, Bethesda revealed a short, three-minute gameplay trailer. From the early looks of it, this game seems to have a lot of potential to being a great hit. Plus, the term "Great Circle" refers to a bunch of mysteries on a map that when you draw a line from each place on the map it creates the Great Circle. As far as what that exactly means, no one really knows. However, that is the beauty of mystery and learning for yourself when the game officially releases later this year.

As of right now, there is not an exact day for Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to be released. All we know in terms of release date is that it is scheduled to be released at some point in 2024. At this point, it would only make sense that it releases near holiday of 2024, but even that can't be said for certain.

Whenever Bethesda decides to announce a release date, it will surely get the attention of just not video game fans, but Indiana Jones fanatics as well. From the little information and gameplay that we have gotten up to this point, it appears that this is going to be a video game you aren't going to want to miss getting your hands on.
