Is Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree releasing in 2024?
It's been almost a full year since FromSoftware announced Shadow of the Erdtree, the upcoming expansion for Elden Ring. While many of us were expecting an update on the highly anticipated DLC at The Game Awards earlier this month, it never came to fruition.
This has left many wondering just how long we'll have to wait for more details on the expansion. No one knows for certain when FromSoftware will reveal more, though some speculate that the developer could be waiting for Elden Ring's two-year anniversary on February 25, 2024, to share more information. It's also possible we could learn more at the Summer Game Fest in June 2024, or other big gaming events such as Gamescom or Tokyo Game Show.
FromSoftware has been unusually slow to release the expansion. The developer's pervious games, like Dark Souls and Bloodborne, received DLC about a year after release. Instead, it took a full year for FromSoftware to announce Shadow of the Erdtree, and it could be two full years, or longer, before it actually gets released.
When is Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree releasing?
The last update we received from FomSoftware was that development on Shadow of the Erdtree "is proceeding smoothly." That's pretty vague though, and offers no real insight into a release window.
I personally believe that a 2024 release for the expansion is most probable. Waiting too long risks people losing interest, especially in returning to a game that would be over two years old.
I'm hoping that we get an update on the expansion in February 2024, followed by a release shortly thereafter. At the latest, I'd like to see Shadow of the Erdtree arrive in Holiday 2024. But again, this is just my speculation and wishes. We'll be sure to let you know if anything official gets announced.
