MLB The Show 25's Weekend Classic was marred by glitches and cheating. The concept was great, but the execution was lacking. A survey went out immediately after the weekend, and man, do I feel bad for whoever was tasked with reading all those complaints. The game's official X account has responded:
"Thank you to everyone who played Weekend Classic 1 this past weekend. Because things were not as smooth as we had hoped, we will be offering two free pack redemptions in The Show Shop until noon PT on 4/22/25. Thank you to our fans for the feedback. We plan to implement changes ahead of Weekend Classic 2."
I'm all about some free packs. I hope they can get Weekend Classic fixed, because as I said, I love the concept. The mode features nine-inning games with quick counts, balks, and guess pitch all turned off. You get rewards based on how many wins you get in your first six games, as well as rewards for placing in the Top 10. One of the problems was a leaderboard glitch, so I'm assuming that's one of the things they're working on.
The Show also announced its Jackie Robinson Day program, including a collection of Negro League players that will culminate in unlocking John Donaldson. He's been meta since his debut. This version has outlier on two of his pitches, so prepare to see him all the time in ranked. You need 13 Negro League players to unlock Larry Doby, and a full 20 to unlock Jackie Robinson.
The program includes a new Showdown, Conquest Map, as well as the collection. It contains Negro League legends Andy Cooper, Rap Dixon, Rube Foster, and Jackie Robinson. MLB The Show 25 is available now on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. Unlike previous years, it is not included on Xbox Game Pass.
