There are a couple of ways game companies celebrate April Fool's Day, including press releases about completely ridiculous things they'd never do. But in this era of Skibidi Toilets in Fortnite, it's getting harder to joke about something that would never happen because nothing fits that bill. EA goes another way in Madden, souping up a card in Ultimate Team to insane proportions. By April, that card is largely indistinguishable from the crazy cards they already have.
This year's "joke" is a 99 overall Adrian Peterson with 0 AP buckets for some of the mode's most broken abilities including Tank, Gunslinger, and Freight Train. He's a 91 when you open his pack, turning into a 99 when you slot him into your lineup and upgrade. He's also kind of an inside joke. At this point, a 91 is severely underpowered. I suspect a lot of people will see a 91 pack and not even bother to open it. Oh, and Peterson powers down to a 91 again on April 4.
The card feels less of a joke and more of a special treat for extremely dedicated MUT players. As another weird side effect, even though most players know he's only a 99 for four days he is still affecting the market. The prices of other quarterback cards have gone down significantly, I guess because nobody is seeking them out for a little while. I'm picking up the Super Bowl MVP Jalen Hurts
I've played a couple of people who weren't using the card, likely not even aware of its existence. I feel a little bad, but at this point MUT is often defined by who has the silliest collection of cards.
