I asked, and we got it: Madden 25 adds Saquon Barkley spin hurdle

The most ridiculous, video game-like move executed during the 2024 season is now in Madden 25, thanks to its most recent patch. Saquon Barkley's spin hurdle is "in the game," as EA is fond of saying. Usually, the Madden team focuses on adding specific new plays that are actually drawn up by the coaches. This is the first time I've seen them add something so improvised this fast. Madden game designer Spade said as soon as he saw it, he knew the team had to add it.

"It's rare, in this day and age, to see something that's never been done before," Spade said in EA's November 20 Gridiron Notes. The team went through all the relevant motion capture animation it had to figure out what parts it had to combine.

Here's how to trigger it:

The ball carrier must be Saquon Barkley because nobody else has ever pulled this move off. The defender must be moving at a 45-degree angle, close to the ball carrier, and you will need to press the hurdle button at the correct time.

If you see somebody playing the Eagles, get your hit sticks ready because everybody and their grandmother is going to be trying to pull this off. Yeah, including me. You're welcome in advance for all the balls on the turf.

I give EA a lot of grief and believe me, they earn it. But I didn't think we'd see this move added until next year, if at all. Hopefully, this sets a precedent for when incredible football moves happen during the season.
