To wrap up Saturday's Old School RuneScape (OSRS) RuneFest Summit portion of RuneFest, it was confirmed that the long-awaited sixth and final quest of the Myreque quest series is set to be released in early 2026.
This quest series is widely considered one of the most captivating series in OSRS, and it has not seen a new release since June 2020, when Sins of the Father was added to that game. That quest is rated as a Master quest, though because of its epic battle with Vanstrom Klause, many believe it rises to the level of Grandmaster.
It has long been speculated that the Grandmaster tag was being saved for the series finale, and now that is official. That quest, titled The Blood Moon Rises, is set to become the game's sixth Grandmaster quest and first since While Guthix Sleeps was released in July 2024.
The Blood Moon Rises is set to feature a battle against Lowerniel Drakan himself to decide the fate of Morytania.
Drakan, who was added to the game when Sins of the Father was released, is currently listed as having level 927 combat, even though he cannot currently be fought. As of right now, the highest-level quest boss in OSRS is Galvek from Dragon Slayer II, which is also a Grandmaster quest. He is listed at level 608.
As the sixth and final quest in the Myreque series, The Blood Moon Rises is set to require completion of Sins of the Father, which already requires the completion of the previous Myreque storyline quests: In Search of the Myreque, In Aid of the Myreque, Darkness of Hallowvale, and A Taste of Hope.
A Taste of Hope was released in May 2018; the others were already in the game before OSRS launched in February 2013. Nature Spirit is also required to complete In Search of the Myreque, and Priest in Peril and The Restless Ghost are both required to compete Nature Spirit.
Though it is a standalone quest, A Night at the Theatre, which requires players to do a Theatre of Blood Raid, is also a prerequisite for The Blood Moon Rises, given its ties to the vampyres and Morytania. Full skill requirements have not yet been released, but they are expected to feature several of at least level 70.
The game's other Grandmaster quests are Song of the Elves, Desert Treasure II, While Guthix Sleeps, Dragon Slayer II, and Monkey Madness II. Their individual skill requirements add up to 560, 470, 437, 427, and 369, respectively, so look for something either within that range or perhaps slightly above 560 for The Blood Moon Rises.
Completion of the new quest is set to unlock access to Vampyrium, the home realm of the vampyres.
The Blood Moon Rises is just one of many planned updates which was touched on in the OSRS portion of RuneFest. More news and updates can be found on the game's official website.
Desert Treasure II is currently considered the game's most challenging quest, with its four epic battles against the Forgotten Four and the ensuing wight encounter. Will that change once a Lowerniel Drakan battle enters the equation?
