2XKO does tutorials right

I am alright at fighting games, especially wrestling ones. But I really appreciate the work Riot's new fighter 2XKO has done to help new players get into what can be a very complex genre. Especially if you've never played a fighter, getting up to speed and learning about frame data and what's safe on block can be intimidating.

2XKO's tutorial does an excellent job of breaking all this stuff down, even including combo practices for specific champions. If a move is frustrating you, you can quickly skip to the next thing it would like you to learn and come back when you're more comfortable. Or maybe you don't end up coming back, because you later decide that move is not something you'll be using. At the beginning, you probably don't know how long you'll be playing this game. You don't need to know every single move yet.

You even earn in-game rewards for doing the tutorial, so there's good reason to play through it even if you are a season fighting game veteran. As I've mentioned, while the game is free-to-play, the purchase of champions and skins is Riot will reach for your wallet.

Ranked play is currently inactive while they work out some of the kinks every game has at launch. But that's not exactly the safest place for a new player anyway. There's a casual lobby, and even it has three placement matches so the system can better match you with players of your level.

As you might imagine, I play a lot of games in this line of work. This is as easy and fun of an onboarding process as I've encountered.
