Is Riot's 12 character launch lineup for 2XKO too stingy?

Lots of players (including me) are excited about the launch of Riot Games fighter 2XKO, but a concern has come up. There are only 12 characters at launch, with only seven of those being free. It probably won't surprise you to learn that Jinx and Vi, two of League of Legends' most popular characters, are behind the paywall.

Right now, there are three daily missions and three weekly missions, which offer 250 Credits per daily and 750 per weekly, so you can earn between 750 and 3,000 in a day through missions. Making matters worse, credits are capped at 12,000. So saving them until your favorite champion releases is needlessly difficult.

The good news is that it's free to use any character in the game's training mode. But after that, each character costs 1000 KO points, or $10. There are, of course, some bundles you can pick up for a theoretical discount.

The $30 Standard Pack contains 4 tokens, 2,000 KO Points, and an exclusive Arcane player card. The Deluxe pack is $60 and includes 8 tokens, 3,000 KO Points, 3 avatar costumes, plus the player card from Standard. A $100 Ultra Pack contains Arcane skins for Vi, Jinx, and Ekko as well as 5,000 KO points, 8 tokens, a special KO animation, stickers, and the items from the other bundles.

I hate to bring down a launch party, but this price structure sounds eerily similar to Multiversus, and we all know how that turned out. And that game had Rick Sanchez, The Iron Giant, and the God Damn Batman. Here's hoping Riot has learned from other publishers' mistakes, because the licensing fighting game scene will get really crowded when Invincible Vs and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls land.
