Is Baldur’s Gate 3 ever coming to Xbox Game Pass?

What a year it has been for Larian Studios and Baldur’s Gate 3. To culminate all of the success that the studio and Badlur’s Gate 3 has had this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 took home the coveted Game of the Year award for 2023.

If you haven’t gotten the chance to check out Baldur’s Gate 3 yet, it definitely is worth giving it a go. There is obviously a reason it won Game of the Year. You get a great story, along with tons of entertaining content that will keep you busy for more hours than you can count.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is currently available for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Since, the game is available for the Xbox Series X|S, there is always hope and the idea in the back of everyone’s mind that maybe one day the 2023 Game of the Year will make its way on the Xbox Game Pass. Larian Studios made a very clear statement in regards to their blockbuster hit being on the Xbox Game Pass.

It doesn’t look like Baldur’s Gate 3 will ever be coming to the Xbox Game Pass

Larian Studios founder Swen Vincke made it very clear in an interview with IGN that there are no current plans to ever bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Xbox Game Pass. Vincke went on to state that “We made a big game, so I think there’s a fair price to be paid for that, and I think that that is okay. We don’t charge you any micro-transactions on top of it, so you get what you pay for. Upfront it’s a big meaty game. So I think that should be able to exist as it is. This is what allows us to continue making other games.” This statement was a follow up statement right after Vincke stated that Larian Studios had never really had plans to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to the Xbox Game Pass.

Obviously the decision to keep Baldur’s Gate 3 off the Xbox Game Pass is completely in the hands of Larian Studios. They feel that they want their hard work to be paid for in full per copy of the game instead of Microsoft paying them to add the game to their service.

Baldur’s Gate 3 won Game of the Year, so they are doing something right and this decision will be final unless Larian Studios decides to change their mind at some point down the line. At this point in time, it doesn’t appear like that decision will ever change.

With that being said, if you planned on waiting for Baldur’s Gate 3 to hit the Xbox Game Pass before giving it a play, you can stop waiting. The only way you are going to get the chance to play the 2023 Game of the Year is by making a purchase for the game itself. With all of the good reviews and good talk the game has been receiving, it sounds like you will not regret any decision in purchasing the game.
