Mortal Kombat 1 is the latest and greatest installment in the Mortal Kombat video games series. Mortal Kombat is one of the most successful fighting games’ franchises of all time. Mortal Kombat fans were overjoyed when NetherRealm Studios announced that there would be another installment in the franchise. However, when Mortal Kombat 1 was first released earlier this year, fans noticed that the game was missing one main feature that almost every new game features in today’s era of video games.

Cross-Play is heading to Mortal Kombat 1 early next year

If you purchased Mortal Kombat 1 within the last three months since it was released on September 14, 2023, you probably have had a fantastic time in their latest fighting adventure. You probably have racked up your fair share of victories and you probably have even beaten the main story by now. The one thing you haven’t been able to do is play against players on different platforms.

Mortal Kombat 1 was released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. With the variety of consoles the game was releasing on, it would only make sense that there would be an option to play against players on different platforms via Cross-Play.

Cross-Play is one of the most added and talked about features when it comes to any new games releasing in today’s era of video games. With a game like Mortal Kombat 1, Cross-Play would absolutely thrive given the 1v1 competitive fighting aspect. Unfortunately, since the games’ launch back in September, there has been no option for Cross-Play at all. However, there is some great news to share in regards to this.

NetherRealm Studios has announced that Cross-Play would be added to the game sometime in February 2024. Cross-Play would only be available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Meaning if you purchased Mortal Kombat 1 on the Nintendo Switch, you will not be able to take advantage of any of the Cross-Play features.

This news on Cross-Play being added shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise as NetherRealm Studios did let fans know that it would be making its way into the game just not at launch. Now with much more Mortal Kombat 1 content on the way as shown via their latest livestream, including upcoming DLC, there will be plenty of content to dive into and explore for the entire 2024 calendar year.
