Starfield has a total of 17 traits to choose from when creating your character. One of the traits you’ll see on the list is “Kid Stuff,” and it comes with a very interesting description:

"Your parents are alive and well, and you can visit them at their home. But you will automatically send 2% of your credits home to them every week."

What does this mean exactly? And what are the benefits of having your parents around — especially at the expense of 2% of your credits weekly?

What does the Kid Stuff Trait do in Starfield?

Despite its vague description, Kid Stuff is actually one of the best traits in the game! When you select this trait, you’ll get a quest early on to visit your parents in Pioneer Tower in the Residential District of New Atlantis.

Throughout the story, there are multiple times when you’ll be prompted to pay your parents a visit. You’ll have a conversation with them and, sometimes, they’ll surprise you with a free gift! Well, sort of free. You are paying them weekly, after all.

What are the Kid Stuff trait rewards?

Unique Weapon: Sir Livingstone’s Pistol

The first reward you’ll receive from your parents is Sir Livingstone’s Pistol. It’s a fairly strong pistol early on, dealing 31 damage with a large magazine and high velocity.

Unique Gear: Gran-Gran’s Spacesuit and Helmet

After completing a few of the main story missions, Noel will give you a note from your mother. After reading the note from you inventory, visit your parents at the Pioneer Tower (turn left out of the Lodge). Talk to your mom and eventually she will bring up Gran-Gran and let you know that she served in the military. She’llg ive you Gran-Gran’s Spacesuit and Helmet.

Unique Ship: Wanderwell

The third and perhaps best reward of all is the Wanderwell. Again, after completing a few more main missions, you’ll get a note from dad. When you visit him, he’ll tell you that he finally won big at his poker game and won the grand prize: a ship. Since he has no use for it, he gifts it to you. You can access this ship by speaking to the Ship Services Technician at any Spacesport. Although you can sell it for credits, this ship is much better than the Frontier, giving you a free upgrade.

Fun encounters

You may encounter your parents during certain some unexpected moments in the game. I won’t spoil when and where though.
