Baldur’s Gate 3 has been one of the most popular video games of 2023. Baldur’s Gate 3 broke multiple Steam records and has captivated over half a million gamers for hours and hours on end. There is no shortage of content to playthrough. Just when you think there you may be closing in on the end of your journey, something else pops up for you to complete. Despite there being more than enough content to float your boat, the big question gamers are looking to have answered if Larian Studios has any DLC planned for Baldur’s Gate 3.

Will Larian Studios develop DLC for Baldur’s Gate 3?

Anytime a video game becomes the next hottest thing, the immediate thought of DLC comes to mind. The reason behind this is because gamers are having so much fun with the game that they are playing that they want the fun to end. Take a look at Elden Ring. Elden Ring was one of the biggest video games of 2022 and before you knew it, gamers were salivating over the idea of DLC content.

When it comes to Baldur’s Gate 3 DLC, Tom Butler gave some insight on what the future holds in terms of additional content. Tom Butler is the Senior Product Manager at Larian Studios. In an interview with IGN at Gamescom 2023, he stated that the main focus is on the upcoming PlayStation 5 release. That is the number one priority for Larian Studios. Larian Studios wants to make sure that everything goes smoothly for this upcoming release because they know it is going to be a big one.

I actually love this response by Tom Butler. You can’t look too far ahead into the future. Baldur’s Gate 3 hasn’t even been released a month yet. This is a great opportunity to let gamers enjoy the game that was created. Too much content at one time isn’t always a good thing. You also don’t want to Larian Studios to take their eyes off any current issues that need to be addressed within Baldur’s Gate 3 at the moment. This is something that Tom Butler went on to further discuss.

Butler stated that once things are taken care of with the PlayStation 5 release and everything smooths out a bit, their main focus will be on patches. “We’ll carry on patching for a while and then we’re all going to take a holiday and then we’ll figure out what we do next, but at the moment, we genuinely have discussions. We want to do more. We don’t know what yet.”

The way this statement is worded is very interesting. It doesn’t close the door to DLC content, but it opens the door to more than just DLC content. If there isn’t any DLC planned for the future of Baldur’s Gate 3, then you can expect the franchise to continue out in some sort of way. They don’t have any plans of stopping the franchise anytime soon, they just don’t know what direction they will end up going in.

With the game being less than a month old, there is no need for DLC at this moment. Let players play through the game, complete as much content as possible, focus on the release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on other platforms, and revisit potential DLC next year sometime or even into the early parts of 2025. Larian Studios has a great video game at the moment and if it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. At least for now.
