NBA 2K24 Summer League: What are the Overtime Rules?
The NBA 2K24 Summer League is nearing the end of the tournament. The NBA Summer League is a way for teams to try out different rosters to see which future stars will make their NBA roster at the start of the season. It is a great way to watch top prospects play for their careers in the NBA.
The NBA Summer League is sponsored by NBA 2K24 this year and even though these are NBA-caliber rosters, the rules (especially OT rules) are a lot different than in the NBA.
How does overtime work in the NBA 2K24 Summer League?
Overtime isn’t extremely common in the NBA nor is it in the NBA 2K24 Summer League. In fact, only three NBA Summer League games have gone to overtime this year. However, if you happened to be watching either of those three games so far, you would have noticed that overtime works a little bit differently than the standard NBA overtime.
As a refresher on how the standard NBA overtime works, it is a 5-minute extra quarter with no limits. Teams can score as many points as they want in OT. If the score is still tied after the first overtime, it will go to another overtime and continue to do so until a winner is declared. There can be an infinite number of overtimes in a regular NBA game.
The NBA Summer League works a lot different. If an NBA Summer League game is tied at the end of regulation, teams will play one 2-minute overtime quarter. If the game is still tied after that, there will be a sudden-death overtime where the next basket wins. Yes, you read that correctly. The next basket would win the game.
Many fans love this rule, and many other fans hate this rule. It makes overtime a lot shorter but has the fans on the edge of their seats the entire sudden death. One wrong move and the game is over.
That is all that there is to know. Next time you turn on an NBA 2K24 Summer League game and it happens to go to overtime, you will know exactly how everything works. While these overtime rules can really get the adrenaline pumping, don’t expect these rules to ever be added to a regular NBA game. After all, this is just the Summer League.
