Crossplay is a great feature that allows you to play the same video games with your buddies on different platforms. Not every video game offers crossplay integration, but it appears that more and more video games are starting to add that feature.
The FIFA franchise and the NHL video game franchise are already ahead of the game by offering crossplay gaming with their current installments. However, for the first time in the series’ franchise history, NBA 2K24 will be offering crossplay matchmaking across all modes.
Crossplay has been a feature that many gamers have been asking about for many years and now their voices have been heard. As confirmed straight from the NBA 2K24 official website, you will be able to “experience cross-platform multiplayer with your friends in NBA 2K24 on PlayStation®5 and Xbox Series X|S across all game modes.”
From the sounds of it, every game mode will feature the option to crossplay. If crossplay is something you do not want to deal with, I am sure there will be an option to turn it off, but that has yet to be confirmed yet.
Platforms that offer crossplay gameplay in NBA 2K24
There is a twist when it comes to crossplay in NBA 2K24. Crossplay won’t be offered on every platform. NBA 2K24 officially releases on Sept. 8, 2023 for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC (Steam) and Nintendo Switch. Of all the platforms that you just read, only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S gamers will be able to enjoy the crossplay gameplay.
What that means is that if you own a PS5 or an Xbox Series X|S, you will be able to play against players from the opposite console. If you own a Nintendo Switch, you won’t be able to play NBA 2K24 against players on the Xbox Series X|S. You will only be able to play against gamers who also purchased the game for the Nintendo Switch. The same goes for PC and last gen console players as well.
While obviously more platforms to crossplay would be ideal, this is a giant step forward for the NBA 2K franchise. After all, the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox Series X|S are always going to be the main console focus point for this type of game so it only makes sense that crossplay would be integrated with these platforms.
If you planned on getting NBA 2K24 on a PlayStation 5 or an Xbox Series X|S, then this news may be big for you. If you didn’t plan to purchase a copy of NBA 2K24 on PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Series X|S, then this news won’t be affecting you at all.
