Is Minecraft Legends free to play?
There is nothing better than getting things for free, especially when it comes to video games. Over the years, there have been tons of video games that have been super successful with a price point of free. Fortnite, Rocket League (now), Fall Guys, Runescape, are all great examples. The list goes on and on. Will Minecraft Legends, which releases on April 18, fall under the “free to play” category?
And the answer is… sort of.
Minecraft Legends is set to release on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC at a price of $39.99. There is also a Deluxe Edition that will cost $49.99.
However, there is a way you can play Minecraft Legends for free. As this is a Mojang game, and Mojang is owned by Microsoft, it makes it a first-party Xbox game. And typically, first-party Xbox games are released for free through Xbox Game pass.
Sure enough, Minecraft Legends will be making its way onto the Xbox Game Pass on April 18. This doesn’t necessarily mean it is free because you have to purchase an Xbox Game Pass subscription, but you won’t technically have to buy the game. If you plan on purchasing the game on any other platform, you will have to pay full price.
The choice of not making Minecraft Legends a free-to-play game is not a surprise by any means. Even the original Minecraft game cost $19.99. Plus, other Minecraft spin-off games have eall cost some money as well.
While $39.99 might seem a little pricy for a video game in the Minecraft franchise, there is going to be a lot of content featured that will be well worth every penny. Minecraft Legends is set to release this week on April 18 for basically all platforms.
