Lies of P has been an intriguing game since it’s been announced. Developer Neowiz has taken lots of creative liberty with Pinocchio, and we now have over 11 minutes of new gameplay footage showing the doll in action during his quest for humanity.
One thing you will notice right away is the combat structure. The Dark Souls-like setup is on display here sans the difficulty the franchise is known for. While fighting, you’ll notice Pinocchio’s stamina is quickly replenished. In some cases, you can do so without really interrupting your combos. The UI is eerily similar to Souls as well, as you can tell by the weapon and stats organization. Pinocchio is pretty deadly with a kitana sword. We do get to also see a spear near the end. Of course, the spear is slower than the sword but does have different abilities to add to combat damage and build setup.
A note to remember, but Neowiz through a monkey wrench in Pinocchio’s desire to become human. Lies of P will feature a number of dialogue choices allowing Pinocchio to more quickly obtain his human form. In order to do that, however, Pinocchio will have to lie. This will lead to questionable decisions and morality choices for every player throughout their play through.
Our weapons will come from our playstyle and exploration in order to find materials. This will not be your typical hack n’ slash, as Pinocchio displays a lot of patience and tactical strikes while taking down enemies. They will strike with weapons and ranged attacks as well as melee attacks, so Pinocchio will need to altar his approach accordingly. There is still no exact release date yet, but Lies of P is scheduled to release this August on PC as well as PS5 and Xbox Series S/X with a day one release on Xbox Game Pass.
