Elden Ring: Will Shadow of the Erdtree DLC be on last gen?
FromSoftware announced the news that Elden Ring DLC Shadow of the Erdtree is officially in development. Seeing as the game is one year old and PS4 and Xbox One consoles are being phased out, fans were wondering what consoles the DLC will be released on. The developer cleared up the news and announced that the game will be on last-generation consoles.
This means that PS4 and Xbox One players will get to enjoy the expansion. This news isn’t as obvious as you may have thought, especially considering that the already announced Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Phantom Liberty is only releasing on current generation PS5 and Series S/X consoles. The official website for the game makes the news known point blank.
"Like the main story, we plan to distribute it on PlayStation 4 / PlayStation 5 / Xbox One / Xbox Series X|S / Steam. The follow-up report is still a little ahead, but I would appreciate it if you could look forward to it. We look forward to your continued support of ELDEN RING”"
As noted previously, Elden Ring just passed its one year anniversary three days ago, and fans were hoping for an announcement of the DLC then, not at 3 AM on a random Tuesday. Either way, as you can tell by the responses to the tweet announcement along with the amount of retweets, people are ecstatic over the news.
No other information is known, but it is surprising to see the DLC released on last generation consoles. They are currently 10 years old, and games are being held back in development from current generation console capabilities in order to releases on last generation consoles as well. At the same time, we also don’t know exactly how many of the 20 million Elden Ring copies sold were on last gen. Perhaps FromSoftware is looking to maximize their potential profit by bringing to last gen as well.
