Is Destiny 2: Lightfall on Xbox Game Pass?

Bungie /

Destiny 2: Lightfall officially launches today. The highly anticipated expansion for Bungie’s long-running online shooter will take players to the planet Neptune where they’ll cross paths with Tormentors and Cloud Striders in defense of the advanced secret city of Neomuna from the invading Shadow Legion.

Destiny2: Lightfall is on Xbox, PlayStation and PC, available for purchase either standalone or with the Annual Pass included. Sorry, the expansion is not free to play like the base game. But what if you’re an Xbox Game Pass subscriber?

Is Destiny 2: Lightfall available on Xbox Game Pass?

Unfortunately, Destiny 2: Lightfall is not available on Xbox Game Pass at launch. And while Destiny 2 and its expansions — Forsaken, Shadowkeep and Beyond Light — were once available on Xbox Game Pass, they left the service on December 8, 2021. They also left Xbox Game Pass for PC in April 2022.

With Bungie now a part of Sony, it’s highly unlikely that Destiny 2: Lightfall will ever come to Xbox Game Pass in the future.

That said, if you own a PlayStation, it’s possible it could be a PS Plus title in a year or so. Sony had just included Destiny 2: Beyond Light in February’s PS Plus lineup, which makes sense if they wanted to get as many PlayStation gamers excited for Lightfall as possible.

So if Destiny 2: Lightfall were to ever come to one of these monthly services, it’ll likely be PlayStation Plus. But don’t count on that for at least a long time.

Destiny 2: Lightfall is said to be the beginning of the end for the long-running Light and Darkness saga. Comprising Year 6 will be four seasons, the first of which kicks off alongside Lightfall’s launch. Season of Defiance (Season 20) is available now, with Season of the Deep (Season 20) coming in the summer. Two more seasons will arrive in the coming months, taking us through early 2024. At that point, the final chapter, The Final Shape, will officially conclude the first saga of Destiny and mark the beginning of a new one. Hopefully, this new saga comes in the form of Destiny 3 because I hate how they’ve had to archive original parts of Destiny 2’s story.
