Recently, during the bonkers Nintendo Direct held early February of 2023, there were a slew of shadow drops including demos, the remarkably excellent remaster of Metroid Prime, and two new channels for both Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games. And speaking of the Game Boy channel, one of the best parts of games from that era are cheat codes! Fun little things that, back in my day *shakes cane* you could input into a game to make all sorts of wacky things happen.

Some of the games in the Game Boy channel have them too! So, here’s a collection of codes for the various games that happen to have any.

Gargoyle’s Quest

These are all going to be for the password screen:

  • Begin the game with extra items and higher stats
    • FFFF-FFFF
  • Level 2
    • MUPP-JMHW
  • Level 3
    • GJ7Q-KLVO
  • Level 4
    • SWXE-CBFJ
  • Level 5
    • BIF8-BRAZ
  • Level 6
    • FWGG-57CY
  • Level 7
    • HWTL-90AZ
  • Level 8
    • N5AQ-9RZF
  • Final Town
    • SWXE-CBFJ
  • Final Town (with 99 vials)
    • 56CD-E67C
  • Final Town (with 9 lives, 99 vials, 1 Essence of the Soulstream)
    • DFJG-PLOC
  • End of Game
    • WPXF-4BDQ

Kirby’s Dream Land

These are for the title screen:

  • Configuration Mode
    • Hold Down, Select, and B
  • Bonus Game
    • Hold Up, Select, and A

Link’s Awakening DX

These ones aren’t game-changers, just silly things.

  • Change the music of the name change screen
    • Enter your name as “ZELDA”
  • Have your name changed to “THIEF”
    • If you steal something from the shop everyone will call you THIEF for the rest of the game which makes for some very funny shade in later scenes.

Metroid II: Return of Samus

No codes, but you’ll get a different ending animation depending of how long it took you to beat the game:

  • Samus stands still during credits
    • Beat the game in 7 hours or more
  • Samus runs endless during credits
    • Beat the game in 5-7 hours
  • Samus runs during credits and at the end jumps and does a super hero landing
    • Beat the game in 3-5 hours
  • Samus runs during credits and at the end jumps and comes back as just Samus in her underwear for no good goddamn reason
    • Beat the game in less than 3 hours

Or, honestly, you could just watch them all here:

Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins

Not a lot of codes here:

  • Easy mode
    • Hit the minus button on your Switch when at the pipe screen picking a save game

That’s it for no on all the more useful codes. As more games are added to the Game Boy Channel we’ll work to update this list so make sure to bookmark!
