Purchasing a PlayStation 5 will be much easier in 2023
Much like the Xbox Series X when it was first released, purchasing a PlayStation 5 has sometimes been viewed at as a nearly impossible task. There were many console shortages due to the Covid-19 pandemic disrupting supply chains and Sony was not able to keep up with all of the high demands. Sony held their 2023 CES Press conference and a lot of information on PS5 was revealed during the quick show.
President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment Jim Ryan made a statement saying, “Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward.”
Ultimately, he’s alluding to the fact that the PS5 shortage has officially ended.
The holidays were huge for PlayStation this year and December 2022 was their biggest month yet in terms of PlayStation 5 sales. Sony have now sold more than 30 million PS5s since its release. Back on November 1, Sony announced that they had sold more than 25 million consoles meaning that between then and now, there have been over 5 million consoles sold. This comes as no surprise and the PS5 was a very popular purchase given that the holidays just rolled around.
According to Jim Ryan’s statement, you should theoretically be able to walk into retailers around the globe and purchase a PlayStation 5 console at a much higher rate than you were before. Previously, you would walk into various retailers and the shelves would be bare with signs stating that they have no PS5s, and they didn’t know when more would be in stock.
There have been many rumors swirling around on the internet that there is a new version of the PlayStation 5 coming at some point in 2023 or 2024 which could be possible. However, a PlayStation 6 will not be in the works for quite a bit of time since the PS5 will only be turning 3 years old in November 2023.
There are a lot of PlayStation 5 games for gamers to get excited about in 2023 and there really isn’t a better time to purchase one than now. There are also no more excuses since the supply shortage seems to be officially over. While you wait for some of the 2023 exclusives such as Final Fantasy XVI and Marvel’s Spiderman 2, you can play some of the great PlayStation exclusives of 2022 such as Horizon Forbidden West and God of War: Ragnarok.
