Bethesda makes a Starfield release promise it can’t afford to break
Starfield has been anticipated for quite a bit of time and unfortunately has fell victim to the dreaded video game delay. It is definitely one of the most anticipated Xbox Series X games to look forward to in 2023. It was believed that Starfield would be released at some point in 2023, and now Bethesda has seemingly locked in and officially narrowed the window, giving fans a better indication of when we can look forward to the highly anticipated sci-fi RPG.
Bethesda has launched a support page on its website and has updated it with information regarding the release date for Starfield. The page states the following:
"“Starfield arrives exclusively on Xbox Series X|S and PC in the first half of 2023.”"
This page was just updated at the start of the month, so we know this isn’t old news about the game releasing in 2023.
Starfield is going to be the next major RPG franchise from Bethesda — a completely new RPG franchise that isn’t named Fallout or the Elder Scrolls. Now that Bethesda has just updated the support page for Starfield, it would be a shame to delay the game even further. Gamers have been waiting patiently for this game and delaying the game may very well hurt the franchise. Too much delay isn’t good for anything.
On the flip side, I understand why Bethesda is taking every precaution to make sure this game is going to have the best possible release. This is a franchise that is just getting started. It could become the next Elder Scrolls or Fallout. A botched release for the first game in a franchise can be really hard to come back from.
While the support page says that Starfield will be released during the first half of 2023, that doesn’t really give us any details on when exactly we can expect it. The first half of 2023 consists of a 6-month window from January to June. While I don’t expect it to be released this month, I think it is safe to say a later first half of 2023 release date is the more likely option.
A June release date wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest. The closer we are to the release date, the more information and details will spill out regarding the game. If for some strange reason, we experience another delay with Starfield, I truly believe that we will get the official release by the end of 2023. I don’t see an option where this game would be delayed into 2024.

From what I have heard lately on this Xbox-exclusive title, I am getting more and more optimistic that the first half of 2023 will indeed be the final release date. If Bethesda went out of its way to update its support page with a first-half 2023 release window and that is not when the game is released, it puts a lot of added pressure on the company. When a game like Starfield has been hyped for this long, the expectations that the gaming community puts on the developers continue to grow.
