Madden 23: Patrick Mahomes still not in 99 Club following Week 16 update
The post-Week 16 player ratings update for Madden 23 went live this evening and Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes remains stuck at a 98 overall. The MVP-front runner had been boosted from a 97 to a 98 overall in the post-Week 15 ratings update following his three-touchdown performance, and that’s where he remained after his Week 16 performance.
Mahomes had an efficient showing against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16, throwing for 224 yards and two touchdowns. However, it apparently wasn’t enough to convince EA that he deserves a spot in the 99 Club.
Although many regard Patrick Mahomes as the best quarterback in the NFL, the 2018 MVP and Super Bowl LIV MVP began the year as the third-best quarterback in Madden 23. He started the season with a 95 overall while Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers — who have both struggled mightily this season — were the two highest-rated with a 97 overall and 96 overall, respectively.
The ratings have been adjusted over the course of the season and Mahomes is now the clear-cut best quarterback in Madden 23. But he’s yet to reclaim his spot in the 99 Club, which is reserved for players who have a Madden-perfect 99 overall rating, the highest possible rating you can have in the game.
Mahomes currently leads the league in passing yards (4,720) and touchdowns (37). His 105.1 QB rating is second-best among starting quarterbacks, trailing only Tua Tagovailoa, who has thrown for 1,000 fewer yards and 12 fewer touchdowns.
Mahomes was rated a 99 overall in Madden 22, but was dropped a few points this year following a season that was disappointing by his own standards. In 2021, Mahomes threw for 4,839 yards and 37 touchdowns, but he also tossed 13 interceptions. It was still an impressive stat line, but he didn’t lead the league in passing yards or touchdowns, which could explain why he was initially dropped from the 99 Club this year.
To his credit, he’s played his way up from a 95 overall to a now 98 overall rating in Madden 23. With two more games to go, there’s a chance he could finish the season where many believe he already belongs.
