Back in February of 2021, EA Sports announced the return of its college football video game series, EA Sports College Football (formerly known as the NCAA Football franchise). EA hasn’t really talked much about the series revival since that announcement, aside from a few interviews that have provided top-level updates on things like school and player name/image likeness licensing.

With college players now able to capitalize on their name, image and likeness it has paved the way for EA to pay them for their inclusion in the football series. Of course, we still don’t know all of the details as to how EA will proceed with this. In fact, in a recent interview with ESPN, EA Sports’ vice president and general manager Daryl Holt even acknowledged that the road for paying players for the in-game image and likeness is “still under construction.”

All this to say, we’re still a bit away from being able to play a college football video game. Although there were rumors that EA was targeting a summer 2023 launch for the series, Holt revealed that same ESPN interview that the publisher is now looking at a summer 2024 launch.

So it seems we’ll be going another year without a college football game. That being said, that doesn’t mean there won’t be anything for fans to look forward to in 2023. It’s quite possible EA could provide a more in-depth progress update, maybe an early look at what’s planned for the franchise.  We know Dynasty mode is a big focus for the developer, so perhaps they’ll talk about their plans for that. Maybe we’ll get to see some early gameplay footage or something.

Maybe we’ll get confirmation about which schools will be included in the game. Right now, it’s been confirmed that at least 120 schools will be featured in the game, including all 10 FBS conferences and the College Football Playoff.

So while there are things to look forward to for EA Sports College Football in 2023, a full release isn’t one of them. For that, we must wait until at least summer 2024.
