Madden 23 September Title update now live with patch notes
Madden 23 has been out for a few weeks now and while EA has released a few small updates here and there, today we get the massive Title Update. This is the big one, the one that addresses gameplay elements stemming from player feedback from the Early Access window. This includes improvements made to various areas of the game such as gameplay, Franchise and Authenticity, Ultimate Team and Face of the Franchise.
For gameplay, the September title update mainly addresses both run and pass blocking. Pass-block “handoff” logic has been tuned to allow blockers to handoff rushers to adjacent ass blockers during a defensive shed move attempt. Pass-block movement has also been tuned to allow pass blockers to commit sooner to rushers, which should reduce lineman from taking themselves out of position. There are also numerous gameplay fixes for bugs and glitches as it pertains to blocking.
Franchise also received numerous fixes, including an issue where user-to-user trades were not working in online leagues. Another fix has been implemented for an issue where CPU teams were not correctly using the franchise tag. Although this issue has been fixed, EA notes: “there will be rare instances where players right below what is perceived as “Elite” will be tagged.”
Quarterback Simulation Stats and QB Regression have also been tuned. EA has lowered the number of plays run in simulated games to lower overall player and team stats across the league.
As for QB regression, it’s been slightly increased as quarterbacks get older. This is to address an issue in which there would be too many highly rated quarterbacks across the league when compared to the base rosters after a few seasons have progressed. The tuning to both QB sim stats and regression should address these concerns.
While these fixes and tunings are certainly welcomed, you may want to restart your Franchise depending on how far you’ve advanced. It’s not necessarily, but if you’ve had some wonky things happen with contracts and player regression, then it may be worth starting over.
A good portion of today’s update also focuses on NFL Authenticity, including adding new Alternate Helmets for various teams (Saints, Bears, Cardinals, to name a few) and adding player likeness heads/faces for multiple players.
Full patch notes for the September Title Update for Madden 23 can be seen here. It should be noted that the September Title update is not the same as the roster update which adjusts team rosters according to the finalized 53-man rosters. However, the Week 1 roster update is also coming today.
