Madden 23: Fastest wide receivers (WRs) at launch
It’s finally Madden season! Madden NFL 23 officially launches this week on August 19 (or August 16 for those with the All Madden edition).
During the offseason, EA had revealed the best-rated overall wide receivers in Madden 23. Davante Adams tops the list (no surprise there), followed by Cooper Kupp and Tyreek Hill. DeAndre Hopkins and Stefon Diggs round out the top five.
But there’s more to a receiver than just their overall grades. Things like route rutting, catching, and speed — especially speed — can turn even an average-rated receiver into a proper threat in the right hands, with the right play calling.
Whether your jumping into just a single online match or starting up a Franchise, odds are you’re going to want at least one speed receiver who can help stretch the field and keep opposing defenses wary of the deep threat. In Madden 23, here are the top 10 fastest wide receivers at launch:
- Tyreek Hill (Miami Dolphins) – 99 Speed (97 OVR)
- Jameson Williams (Detroit Lions) -98 Speed (78 OVR)
- Quez Watkins (Philadelphia Eagles) – 98 Speed (78 OVR)
- Jaylen Waddle (Miami Dolphins) – 97 Speed (84 OVR)
- Marquise Brown (Arizona Cardinals) – 97 Speed (84 OVR)
- Mecole Hardman (Kansas City Chiefs) – 97 Speed (79 OVR)
- Anthony Schwartz (Cleveland Browns) – 96 Speed (69 OVR)
- Marquise Goodwin (Seattle Seahawks) – 96 Sped (74 OVR)
- Andy Isabella (Arizona Cardinals) – 95 Speed (70 OVR)
- Calvin Austin III (Pittsburgh Steelers) – 95 Speed (70 OVR).
Once again, Tyreek Hill is the fastest wide receiver in the game. Although his overall has gone down a point, he returns with a perfect 99 Speed rating. He also boasts 99 Acceleration, meaning he’s going to hit that top speed really quickly.
Following Hill, there’s been quite a shake-up in the speed ratings. Henry Ruggs III is no longer listed, for obvious reasons, and Marquise Brown has dropped down a few spots. Although Brown is still rated with 97 Speed, there are now two players with 98 Speed: Jameson Williams and Quez Watkins.
Williams is a rookie drafted in the first round by the Detroit Lions. Although he tore his ACL in the national championship game last season, EA believes it won’t impact his speed. He’ll enter Madden 23 as the second fastest receiver in the league with 98 Speed. If you’re looking for a young receiver to build a team around, Williams might not be a bad option as he also comes with a 78 Overall, 95 Acceleration, and 80 Catch. Improving his 65 Awareness should boost his rating further.
Of course, there’s also Jaylen Waddle. The second-year receiver will look to build on his breakout rookie season. Waddle once again returns with 97 Speed, but now he’s got an 84 Overall to go with it. With 97 Acceleration and 85 Catch, Waddle might be the better wide receiver to target if you’re building a franchise.
It’s important to note that these are only the Speed ratings at launch. With weekly updates, these ratings could change over the course of the NFL season.
