With Madden 23 set to arrive in August, EA should begin to reveal the official player ratings soon — probably sometime this month. But it’s never too early for some predictions and to get the debate rolling. Following our predictions for the top-rated quarterbacks in Madden 23, today we’re giving our predictions for the best running backs in this year’s game.

Before we get into this year’s ratings, let’s first take a look at how the position stacked up in Madden 22, both at the beginning of the season and at the end.

Madden 22 RB Launch Ratings

  1. Christian McCaffrey – 97 OVR
  2. Derrick Henry – 96 OVR
  3. Nick Chubb – 96 OVR
  4. Dalvin Cook – 95 OVR
  5. Alvin Kamara – 94 OVR

Madden 22 RB Final Ratings

  1. Derrick Henry – 97 OVR
  2. Chrisitan McCaffrey – 96 OVR
  3. Nick Chubb – 96 OVR
  4. Dalvin Cook – 95 OVR
  5. Joe Mixon – 93 OVR

As you can see, the top running backs didn’t change too much from the beginning to the end of the season, which is a bit weird when you take into account, Jonathan Taylor. I expect big things from him this season, so without further adieu, let’s get into our predictions for Madden 23.

Derrick Henry (Tennessee Titans)

I made the argument last season that Derrick Henry deserved to join the Madden “99 Club.” After rushing for over 2,000 yards in 2020, Henry was off to a tremendous start in the 2021 season. Unfortunately, his season ended prematurely due to a fractured foot. Still, he finished the season with 937 rushing hards and 10 touchdowns in eight games.

EA doesn’t typically alter a player’s overall rating due to injury so because he finished last year with a 97 overall rating, I think he stays at that for at least the start of Madden 23.

Although Henry has a ton of miles under his legs, he’s still just 28 years old. Some may consider that old in running back years, but I think he deserves to be at the top of the list until someone dethrones him. However, that may happen as soon as this year if this next player on my list continues his upward tractory.

Rating Prediction: 97 Overall
