With the NBA offseason in full swing, 2K is gearing up to reveal the next installment of its popular NBA 2K series. The developer has released a teaser for the upcoming NBA 2K23 reveal, promising to announce the cover stars and release gameplay first looks, among other things.

The teaser, which you can see below is just a black box with a blurry image beneath it. A searchlight skims the image, but we can’t really make out any details.

Still, that hasn’t stopped fans from speculating as to who the cover athletes will be this year. 2K typically features three distinct covers for the various special editions of its basketball game.

NBA 2K22 featured Dallas Mavericks star Luka Doncic on the cover of the Standard Edition and Cross-Gen Digital Bundle. The NBA 2K22 NBA 75th Anniversary Edition featured three of the league’s most iconic big men: Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, 14-time All-Star Dirk Nowitzki, and 11-time All-Star Kevin Durant. NBA 2K22 also featured the first-ever WNBA superstar on the cover in six-time WNBA All-Star Candace Parker

There’s certainly no shortage of NBA stars to choose from for the cover of NBA 2K23. Rumors have indicated that Phoenix Suns All-Star Devin Booker will grace at least one of the covers for the game, but 2K has not officially announced anything yet.

One could make the argument that Jaylen Brown or Stephen Curry are well-deserving of the cover spotlight. Both players met in the 2022 NBA Finals as the Golden State Warriors topped the Boston Celtics to become champions.

Stephen Curry won the NBA Finals MVP for the first time in his career, adding another notch to his legendary career. Stephen Curry was on the cover of NBA 2K16 so it’s been a while since we’ve last seen him in the spotlight.
