There is an Achievement/Trophy that you can achieve in Elden Ring called “God Slaying Armament.” How one can achieve this Achievement is more difficult and time consuming than the description actually makes it seem. In order to acquire this Achievement/Trophy, all you have to do is upgrade any Armament to its highest level. Seems easy, doesn’t it?

Naturally, you may have started to upgrade your different Armaments as you have progressed through Elden Ring. In the game, there are both normal Armaments that you can upgrade and special Legendary Armaments that you can upgrade. Each of these Armaments have a different level cap and require different Smithing Stones to upgrade them.

Upgrading Normal Armaments

The max level for normal Armaments is level 25. Getting one of your Armaments to level 25 is going to take time and most likely won’t be something that you can accomplish until later on in your Elden Ring journey. The reason on why it takes so long to get an Armament up to level 25 is because a lot of the resources you need to upgrade it to higher levels are rarer and can be harder to find.

In order to upgrade your Armaments to higher levels, you need to acquire Smithing Stones. For normal Armaments, there are a total of 8 different Smithing Stones and 1 Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. The 8 different Smithing Stones that you are able to discover are numbered 1-8 and each numbered Stone can only be used to upgrade a normal weapon up until a certain level.

List of Smithing Stones for Normal Armaments

  • Smithing Stone (1): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 1-3
  • Smithing Stone (2): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 4-6
  • Smithing Stone (3): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 7-9
  • Smithing Stone (4): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 10-12
  • Smithing Stone (5): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 13-15
  • Smithing Stone (6): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 16-18
  • Smithing Stone (7): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 19-21
  • Smithing Stone (8): Upgrades normal Armaments through levels 22-24
  • Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone: Upgrades normal Armaments to level 25

There are a variety of different ways that you can acquire these Smithing Stones. Some can be bought through merchants, some can be found by looting chests and corpses, and some can even be found on walls in various mineshafts. You may come across some of these Smithing Stones in Elden Ring naturally. Others may require a bit more exploration to find rarer ones. As your Armament level increases, the number of Smithing Stones may also increase as well.

Once you go through the upgrade process and get your normal Armament up to level 24, you will need to acquire an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone to get it to the max level of 25. If you successfully get a normal Armament to level 25, you will have achieved max level and will unlock the Achievement/Trophy “God Slaying Armament.”
